The Hoosier State Press Foundation and the Indiana Newspaper Advertising Executive Association are launching the 2016 Advertising Internship Program.
Advertising directors and publishers can register for access to the pool of applicants at www.HSPAfoundation.org/registration. The deadline is Jan. 29, 2016.
The HSPA Foundation and INAEA will solicit qualified college students from the Midwest region for advertising directors to evaluate as potential interns for their newspaper.
HSPA and INAEA will organize the application and selection process and provide sales training for the students before they begin their internships.
Newspapers that sign up for the program agree to offer at their own expense a competitive wage (at least minimum wage of $7.25 an hour) and commission for a minimum of six weeks at full-time status with the newspaper.
Newspapers may offer an extended work schedule to the intern if the intern’s schedule permits. Papers will set the actual work dates with the interns since school schedules vary.
How are students recruited?
The HSPA Foundation will reach out to colleges and universities about available openings and ask students to rank those newspapers where they could work and find housing.
Newspapers who hire the students will chose from the applicant pool. Applicants will be pre-screened by INAEA representatives.
How will students be trained?
HSPA Advertising Director Pamela Lego, with the assistance of INAEA ad directors, will provide a training session for the interns so they receive some newspaper and digital advertising sales background before heading to the newspapers.
When is the deadline?
Deadline for newspapers to register is Friday, Jan. 29.
Recruiting of students will begin as soon as the HSPA Foundation knows which papers have requested an intern.
Newspapers should register now by completing the simple electronic form at www.HSPAfoundation.org/registration.
