The Indiana Newspaper Advertising Executives Association & the HSPA Foundation will sponsor the event again this year.

Sweet!

Two tubular dudes will present sessions for managers, new sales reps, veteran sales staff and designers.

Kevin Slimp, director of the internationally recognized Institute of Newspaper Technology, and Tim Smith of Tim Smith Consulting in Allentown, Pa., will offer rad information on a variety of topics.

Three years ago Publishers’ Auxiliary called Slimp “probably the most popular and effective speaker among community newspaper publishers.”

Smith specializes in employee and management training. He’s worked in the training and development field for more than 28 years and in the newspaper and print industry for more than nine.

So, where’s the beef?

Slimp begins with a 10 a.m. session for advertising managers – “How Changes at the Times-Picayune Ruined My Memorial Day Vacation.” (Grody to the max!)

He’ll tell the real story of the move in New Orleans and what’s happened as a result of one company’s decision to convert newspapers to digital publications.

Following this, Slimp will give quick and easy ideas to increase revenue on newspaper websites.

HSPA will sponsor a managers luncheon, and Pamela Lego, Midwest Advertising Placements director, will review the benefits of the association’s advertising arm.

Cool beans!

While the execs do their thing, new sales reps will learn about time- and territory-management skills, goal-setting, prospecting, and sales by numbers – or what they should do on a day-to-day basis. This session will run through the lunch hour.

Chill! The wannabes get to eat, too!

Afternoon registration begins at 12:30 and sessions start at 1 p.m. for all of the morning participants, plus veteran sales reps and designers.

Smith will cover sales presentations and using marketing plans, handling objections and closing skills.

Meanwhile Slimp will offer a session for designers and others interested in creating good ads – Tips for Designing Great Newspaper Ads & A Look at Some That Weren’t So Good.

Radical!

Later he’ll turn to those techy things cool designers need to know – More About Photo Editing and Color Correction in Photoshop and Advanced InDesign Tools.

I mean, everybody knows these things, right?! I’m so sure!

The fun really begins with a reception where attendees can schmooze and rally the votes for the People’s Choice Award. Someone will go home with an extra piece of hardware.

The awards presentation from the 2012 Advertising Contest will follow dinner.

But everyone needs to register to participate. Watch for the brochure, winners’ list and online registration information in the middle of July.

Don’t be a dweeb and miss the Aug. 31 early-bird deadline to sign up at a reduced fee. That would be so lame!
