The Herald Bulletin was recently selected as Newspaper of the Year for 2013 in Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.’s large-newspaper division.
The newspaper also won 14 awards in the annual Indiana Associated Press Media Editors contest.
The CNHI Newspaper of the Year award was based on the judging of selected editions from 2013. The Herald Bulletin’s entry included coverage of Anderson’s annexation attempt and a prison interview with convicted killer Michael Baer.
“The Herald Bulletin gives its readers a strong mix of enterprise journalism, compelling writing and rich multimedia storytelling,” the judges wrote. “The paper has the feel of completeness, from news to features to sports to commentary and editorials.”
The Herald Bulletin also won CNHI’s Newspaper of the Year award in 2004 and 2009. CNHI newspapers serve more than 130 communities across the United States.
“This is a real honor for the newsroom and the entire staff of The Herald Bulletin,” Publisher Henry Bird said. “To be recognized by your peers for excellence is highly gratifying.”
Also in the contest, theheraldbulletin.com was named runner-up for best website, and Phil Miller was runner-up for best page designer.
In the 2013 IAPME contest, The Herald Bulletin won 14 awards, topping its circulation division.
