The American Legion Department of Indiana awarded The Herald (Jasper) its 2013 Fourth Estate Award.
Jasper American Legion Post 145 adjutant Daniel Lawson presented the award to the newspaper’s staff during its fall membership dinner.
Accepting the award was senior staff writer Bill Powell, who is a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124.
The Herald also won the award that recognizes excellence in covering veterans and veterans affairs in 2007, 2009 and 2011.
The newspaper was nominated by Lawson, who compiled a scrapbook of selected veteran-related stories The Herald published from June 2012 through May.
