The Woman’s Press Club of Indiana has named Ann Allen of Akron its Communicator of Achievement for 2011.

As Indiana’s nominee, Allen will compete with nominees from other states for the top award, which will be given in September.

Allen also collected the Honeycomb Award at the recent women’s press club banquet.

It is given to the person who receives the most points in the club’s annual communications contest.

She won first-place awards in news reporting – daily newspapers, personality profile, specialty articles – agriculture or agribusiness, and nonfiction book – history.

Allen is a correspondent for The Rochester Sentinel. She also writes for Farm World and does freelance work.

She was cited for her lifelong dedication to journalism and her exceptional ability to write interesting stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

She owned the Akron News from 1962 through 1977.
