Charles Gusewelle, now a Sunday columnist for The Kansas City Star, will share lessons learned during his storied career with the newspaper. He traveled in Europe, the Middle East, the Soviet Union and Africa while foreign editor for the paper.

Damian Strohmeyer began his career at the Topeka Capital Journal in Kansas and The Denver Post before joining Sports Illustrated 20 years ago.

Editors can register their staffs or download a brochure by clicking here.

Along with national journalists, 11 of Indiana’s own also will present their success stories.

As newspapers incorporate more and more multimedia into their products, reporters might wonder how they can do it all.

Justin Cohn, a sports reporter for The Journal Gazette, set trends with his multimedia coverage of the Fort Wayne Komets. An award-winning writer and photographer for The Corydon Democrat, Alan Stewart pulls double duty every issue. And Chris Howell, a Herald-Times (Bloomington) senior photojournalist, demonstrates the reverse as he writes a weekly photo column.

These three journalists will share how they handle the varied tasks regardless of paper size or job title.

Jennifer Imes, content chief for digital at The Indianapolis Star; Sarah Morin, The Herald-Times (Bloomington) digital editor; and Ball State’s John Strauss will discuss best practices in implementing digital strategy.

Four finalists for this year’s Ray Moscowitz Award will serve on a panel discussing watchdog journalism.

Steve Key, HSPA’s executive director and general counsel, will present his annual access session explaining how to respond when officials turn down your valid requests for records.

This year’s seminar features a later start time, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 1.

The HSPA Foundation mailed the list of winners and seminar registration information.
