Newspaper Association of America President and CEO Caroline Little announced she is stepping down from her position effective Aug. 31.

Little was named president and CEO of the industry’s largest trade organization in 2011. NAA lobbies on issues critical to the industry, advocating on behalf of the industry, and shares best practices, research and training among members.

Little led the successful merger of the American Press Institute with the NAA Foundation in 2012, according to a release from the association.

Under her direction, NAA worked with members of Congress and other government organizations to preserve the free flow of information to the public and legal protection for journalists.

The association recently played a key role in Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to revise the Department of Justice’s media guidelines and subpoenas.

Little has nearly 30 years of executive and legal experience, previously serving as CEO, North America of Guardian News and Media Ltd before her role at NAA.

Prior to that, she was publisher and CEO of Washington Post Newsweek Interactive, where she led the division to its first year of profitability.

She plans to join her family in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
