Decatur Daily Democrat Publisher Ron Storey announced the appointment of
J. Swygart to the position of managing editor.
Swygart has worked at the Democrat since 2001. He previously served as managing editor of the Wapakoneta (Ohio) Daily News. Prior to that, he worked for daily newspapers in Van Wert and Celina, Ohio.
He fills a vacancy created when longtime Managing Editor Bob Shraluka opted to reduce his workload.
Shraluka, who served as managing editor for more than 39 years, will continue to be a regular contributor to the newspaper.
Moving up to the position of associate editor is Jannaya Andrews, who has worked as a reporter and editor at the Democrat for the past two years.
Two new faces recently joined the newsroom staff.
Ashley Thieme started her journalism career at the newspaper as a general assignment reporter.
Mike Lamm also joined the staff as a general assignment reporter. He has 16 years of newspaper experience and is an award-winning photographer.
