Longtime newsman Paul Mullaney will leave The Times Media Co. to join Bishop Noll Institute effective Jan. 6.
Mullaney, 54, of Hammond, has been with The Times (Munster) for 23 years. He started out as a college sports writer, eventually working for The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif. He returned to the region with his wife, Kelly, in the mid-1990s.
A 1977 graduate of Bishop Noll in Hammond, Mullaney will become its president.
“I’m excited. I’m humbled and honored to have been selected,” said Mullaney, currently the managing editor of The Times Media Co. “I look forward to working with a very talented team of people and making Bishop Noll even better now and in the future.”
The president-principal model of parochial school leadership is designed to relieve the principal of many nonacademic related duties such as fundraising, recruiting, marketing, public relations and maintenance.
A member of the Bishop Noll board of trustees, Mullaney served on the board for six years. He was off for the 2011-12 school year, then returned. He is in the second year of a three-year term on the board but has stepped away from the board because of his new position.
Mullaney also is a former member of the Lake Area United Way board and is now a trustee for St. Joseph’s Carmelite Home in East Chicago.
