Rhonda Smith has been named general manager of Leader Publishing Co. of Salem.

Publisher Nancy Grossman will remain in her post at The Salem Leader and The Salem Democrat.

Smith had been office manager since 2000. In her new role, she will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the company. The editor, sales manager and production manager will report to her and work with her on projects and promotions for the newspapers.

Smith started with Leader Publishing Co. in 1991, filling a part-time inserting position. She also made sales calls and filled in as a typesetter.

In 1992 she moved to a front office position, still on a part-time basis. She became full-time classified ad manager in 1993.

Smith’s professional development includes training through the Hoosier State Press Association and Inland Press Association. A Salem High School graduate, Smith attended Ivy Tech two years.

Grossman, who is the third generation of her family to own and operate The Salem Leader, The Salem Democrat and Your AD-Vantage, said promoting Smith will allow her more time to devote to other aspects of the company.

“I plan to become more involved in community service and relations on behalf of LPC and to focus more on the development of our website, www.salemleader.com,” she said.
