From a town official from Andrews, Ind.:

Q: Is an email message considered written notice according to the Open Door Law?

A: Yes, email notice to the media would be sufficient.

The Open Door Law requirement for notice is found at IC 5-14-1.5-5.

IC 5-14-1.5-5(b)(2) spells out the requirement that notice of meetings must be given to the media at least 48 hours in advance.

(Weekends and holidays don’t count toward the 48 hours.)

The section says notice can be accomplished through U.S. mail, email or fax.

Don’t forget you also have to post notice. See IC 5-14-1.5-5(b)(1).
