The Hoosier State Press Association Foundation awarded two $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors planning to major in print journalism.

Beatriz Costa-Lima from Munster High School won the Foundation’s small-division scholarship (under 2,000 enrollment) and the Indiana High School Journalist of the Year award. She will represent Indiana in the Journalism Education Association’s National Journalist of the Year contest.

The Munster High School Crier editor says she is undeniably a journalism nerd and that four years of high school journalism altered her view of the world.

Columbus North High School’s Katie Kutsko received the large-division scholarship.

The students received certificates for their awards at the Indiana High School Press Association’s First Amendment Symposium at the Statehouse on March 7.

They may use the scholarship for tuition, books, fees, housing or any other legitimate expense related to their college education.

Students submitting portfolios for the IHSPA’s Journalist of the Year competition and who plan to major in print journalism are eligible for the scholarship. Applications are due annually around mid-February.
