Highlights in this issue:
• In his News Biz column, HSPA president Greg Morris writes: If you publish public notice advertisements in your publication, please pay attention. HSPA’s efforts to preserve public notices moves online, and publishers are asked to add a short code to their public notices as part of an upgrade to Indianapublicnotices.com.
• HSPA has worked with state lawmakers on a bill that caps fees for those who make voluminous records requests. The law also would let citizens receive public data electronically.
• The HSPA Foundation has supported two more amicus briefs for member newspapers, bringing last month’s total to four.
• HSPA Executive Director and General Counsel Steve Key says the public has a right to background information when public officials and employees face disciplinary action by their employers. The Indiana public access counselor disagrees.
