Dean starts at IU Media School

James Shanahan has been appointed dean of the new Indiana University Media School.

Shanahan previously worked as associate dean and professor at the College of Communication at Boston University.

Shanahan will be the first dean of the Media School, which was formally created in July to combine journalism, telecommunications, communication and culture, and film.

Before his position at Boston University, Shanahan was chairman of the Department of Communication and director of graduate programs at Fairfield University.

He spent more than a decade as a professor in the Department of Communication at Cornell University.

He received his Ph.D. in communication from University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
