The mighty effort to enter the 2016 Advertising Contest sponsored by INAEA and HSPA Foundation is under way at newspapers around the state.

With the deadline less than a month away – midnight June 10 – newspapers who plan to enter should log in now if they haven’t yet to ensure they know their password and are familiar with the entry process.

After putting in the effort to enter the contest, Chris Cosner’s staff at the Daily Journal and South Magazine in Franklin look forward to a day of advertising training and the awards dinner – scheduled this year for Sept. 15 in Indianapolis.

“My advertising reps and graphic design team both leave the conference revived and motivated to improve and try new ideas with regard to advertising campaigns and ad design,” she said.
“It’s also nice to publish all the awards that we win each year so our readers and our advertisers can see the level of talent we have on our staff,” said Cosner, also a member of the INAEA Board.

Ads are entered online at BetterBNC.com. Advertising departments should refer to the contest packet they received by mail for entry instructions. Contest managers can request additional copies of the packet by emailing HSPA at sgoldsby@hspa.com.

Kathy Tretter, editor and publisher of the Ferdinand News and Spencer County Leader, said the effort to enter the contest is worth the staff time devoted to it.

“The contest serves as a means for recognizing my staff’s accomplishments and provides outside praise for a job well done,” said Tretter, a former member of the HSPA Board of Directors. “The entire staff takes great pride in everyone’s work, so a win for one translates to a win for all.

“The excitement following the contests is almost palpable, and it reenergizes our staff,” she said.

The awards gala will again be held in conjunction with the HSPA Annual Conference Sept. 15-16 at The Alexander Hotel in Indianapolis.

Training for advertising staffs will be during the day on Sept. 15, followed by the advertising awards gala that evening. Socializing continues at the hotel’s eclectic lounge after awards are presented.

Cosner said her advertising reps and graphic design team get great ideas and inspiration from all the advertisements submitted from newspapers around the state.

“The training component alone pays for the contest fee and the conference,” she said.
