E. Mayer Maloney Jr. will retire as publisher of The Herald-Times (Bloomington) and three other south-central Indiana newspapers July 1.

July 1 will mark Maloney’s 14th anniversary of joining The Herald-Times.

He will be succeeded by Cory Bollinger, who has been publisher of the American News Co. in Aberdeen, South Dakota, since 2010.

The American News Co. and Hoosier Times Inc., which includes the Bedford Times-Mail, the Martinsville Reporter-Times and the Mooresville Times, both are owned by Schurz Communications Inc. of Mishawaka.

A graduate of University High School and Indiana University, Maloney became publisher of The Herald-Times Oct. 1, 2002, replacing Scott C. Schurz, who had been publisher for the 32 years before that. Schurz continues to serve his family’s company as chairman of the board.

Maloney became publisher of the Reporter-Times and Mooresville Times in August 2005 and was named publisher of the Times-Mail on Jan. 1, 2006.

Maloney, who will turn 67 in August, has been very active in the Bloomington community. He’s completing his eighth year on the board of the Community Foundation of Bloomington and

Monroe County, and he served two years as board chairman.

He’s a former member of the HSPA Foundation Board of Directors.
