The Hoosier State Press Association Foundation’s Better Newspaper Contest has been revived for 2021.
As the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel begins to emerge, the Boards for the HSPA and HSPA Foundation determined it was time to take some time to recognize journalism excellence in the state of Indiana.
To avoid a gap in coverage, entries for the 2021 HSPA Better Newspaper Contest will cover any stories, photographs or sections published from May 1, 2019 through Dec. 31, 2020.
The contest website is open for the submission of entries at https://www.hspa.com/hspa-foundation/contests/better-newspaper-contest/.
The deadline for participation will be 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021.
Full contest information will be emailed by Friday, Dec. 18 to all Indiana editors and publishers.
Unfortunately, the pandemic will prevent us from gathering for an awards ceremony. A virtual awards event will take place in late April of 2021. The actual awards will be mailed to all winners.
“The newspaper industry has dealt with extraordinary events over the last year. It’s gratifying to see HSPA reach a point where we once again can recognize the best of Indiana journalism,” said Steve Key, executive director and general counsel for the Hoosier State Press Association.
In a related note, the two boards determined not to resurrect the awards program for advertising staffs. The continuing centralization and reduction in the number of advertising designers drove the decision.
