Q&A: Public notice ad for name change

Q: A woman wants to place a public notice advertisement for a change of name. Does the publication need to include her address?

A: No, but the public notice advertisement must include the following (See IC 34-28-2-3):

1. Name of petitioner;

2. New name desired;

3. Name of the court where the petition is filed;

4. Date the petition was filed;

5. A statement that any person has the right to appear at the hearing and file objections.
