Two experienced trainers will present sessions for managers, new sales reps, veteran sales staff and designers. Kevin Slimp, director of the internationally recognized Institute of Newspaper Technology, and Tim Smith of Tim Smith Consulting in Allentown, Pa., will offer information advertising departments can implement immediately.

Slimp begins with a 10 a.m. session for advertising managers – “How Changes at the Times-Picayune Ruined My Memorial Day Vacation.”

He’ll tell the real story of the move in New Orleans and what’s happened as a result of one company’s decision to convert newspapers to digital publications.

Following this, Slimp will give quick and easy ideas to increase revenue on newspaper websites.

HSPA will sponsor a managers luncheon, and Pamela Lego, Midwest Advertising Placements director, will review the benefits of the association’s advertising arm.

New sales reps will learn about time- and territory-management skills, goal-setting, prospecting, and sales by numbers in a session that includes lunch.

Afternoon registration begins at 12:30, and sessions start at 1 p.m. for all of the morning participants, plus veteran sales reps and designers.

Smith will cover sales presentations and using marketing plans.

Meanwhile Slimp will offer a session for designers and others interested in creating great ads.

The fun really begins with a reception where attendees can schmooze and rally votes for the People’s Choice Award. Someone will go home with an extra piece of hardware. The awards presentation from the 2012 Advertising Contest will follow dinner.

Don’t miss the Aug. 31 early-bird deadline to sign up staff members at a reduced fee.
