Noelle Steele has been named editor of the Daily Reporter (Greenfield).
As a writer for the Daily Reporter, she has covered a policeman’s death and chronicled an epidemic in drug overdoses. She has written about corrupt cops and the arrests of public officials. And she’s helped readers understand the plight of people who live in the margins of society.
Steele will oversee a staff that produces five daily editions and three weekly ones. She replaces David Hill, who is retiring in December after 12½ years as editor.
Steele, who joined the Daily Reporter in 2006, has won numerous news and feature writing awards from the Hoosier State Press Association and The Associated Press. She has worked to ensure transparency in public affairs, especially at public safety agencies, and has advocated for more openness in the conduct of police disciplinary matters.
Steele, 30, grew up in Alexandria and has a bachelor’s degree in journalism, English and Spanish from Franklin College. She also has a master’s degree in media management from the University of Missouri.
She is active in the community and was most recently seen on stage as Marian Paroo in “The Music Man” at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts in Greenfield.
She will assume her editor responsibilities Jan. 1.
