The Indiana Debate Commission, which hosts debates for candidates running for statewide offices, elected Max Jones as its new president.

Jones, editor of the Tribune-Star (Terre Haute), also is involved in several HSPA-supported initiatives, included serving on the Newsroom Seminar and Better Newspaper Contest Rules Committee and working with the Friends of Ernie Pyle.

Other debate commission announcements involving leaders at HSPA-member newspapers include:

• Mizell Stewart III, editor of The Courier & Press (Evansville), is the new vice president of the 23-member, nonprofit board.

• Tim Harmon, managing editor of the South Bend Tribune, is a new board member.

The Indiana Debate Commission is a non-partisan, statewide group of 13 affiliate organizations dedicated to promoting debates at the state level. The commission works with candidates, sponsors, venues and citizen groups to promote open, unbiased and transparent debates for Hoosier voters.
