A recent poll by the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute found that about a quarter of news organizations have lost significant amounts of their online news archive.
Unlike print, digital news content can silently vanish in the blink of an eye. Digital preservation (not just backup) is the key to ensuring long-term survival of content that news organizations need for context, credibility, reuse and monetization.
RJI is asking journalists to join librarians, historians, archivists and entrepreneurs in formulating a national agenda for saving digital news content.
