The Herald-Times in Bloomington, Indiana, part of the USA Today Network, seeks a skilled and resourceful reporter to cover business and development. This role includes monitoring government meetings, looking at site plans, evaluating records and understanding the news value of various proposals. It also means being observant of and curious about the community to sniff out stories before competitors. The ideal candidate also has some data skills and understands how to manage spreadsheets that can be the foundation for investigations and exclusive enterprise.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
- A passion for being the authority on what’s being built, modified, sold and developed in our communities
- Strong news judgement, ability to spot trends and willingness to allow data to inform which stories to pursue
- Ability to produce a mix of breaking news, daily content and long-term enterprise using innovative storytelling
- Capable of shooting video or photos occasionally while also knowing when to coordinate with others to improve quality
- Strong spelling and grammar, reporting and interviewing, time management and social media outreach skills
- An understanding of media law and ethics
