We need a newsroom leader to help revive a 137-year-old newspaper in northwest Indiana in Chesterton, home to a great school district and an active community, with the Indiana Dunes and Lake Michigan on our front porch, and about 35 miles from Chicago.
The Chesterton Tribune is returning as a semi-weekly publication under new ownership after being shuttered in December 2020.
We need an Editor who is a people person with a nose for news and a command of journalism’s community and watchdog roles; who possesses an innate curiosity about everything; and who is community-minded, customer service-focused and is a collaborator. Solid editing, writing, reporting, photography, and newsroom management skills are a must; with design aplomb, digital media, and videography chops a definite plus. A journalism, communications, English, or related degree is a plus, but is not a deal breaker.
Herding staff, freelancers, and news partners is part of the landscape. Public affairs, education, sports and recreation, business and agriculture, faith, the environment and arts and entertainment are among the news demands.
The Chesterton Tribune is part of Hurd Media Group, and is affiliated with Hoosier Media Group’s 20 newspapers across Indiana. We value local news and community service. Apply to join us, or suggest someone who should, with a cover letter, resume, and samples at email@example.com.
