The Kokomo Tribune is seeking an ambitious and experienced features editor to join its award-winning staff.
The features editor will work closely with the managing editor and features paginator to help spotlight the community and people of Kokomo. The successful candidate will be responsible for writing features stories, scheduling photographers and maintaining a calendar of events throughout Howard County, as well as several surrounding counties. The KT publishes Monday, and Wednesday through Saturday, and includes a features page daily. The features editor will also be responsible for providing a story for Heartland magazine, also published by the KT.
The editor should be comfortable working with newsroom colleagues but also with a diverse group of community members. The ideal candidate will have strong journalistic credentials, an ability to think strategically about digital features coverage and a willingness to meet readers’ information needs in an engaging, high-impact way.
Must be competent and comfortable working with social media sites, as well as proficient in copy editing techniques, know AP style and be able to write accurate, attention-grabbing headlines. The features editor will work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule.
Kokomo is located in Howard County, Indiana, about 60 miles north of Indianapolis and about 90 miles south of South Bend.
This position requires the ability to type. This individual must be able to make his or her way to news events when needed. This can involve working in unfavorable weather conditions, uneven terrain, climbing stairs and climbing to a higher vantage point to achieve the best view.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in journalism or associated discipline. This person must possess a valid driver’s license.
Five years’ experience supervising a section of a newspaper, such as local news or sports.
