Description

IndyStar is seeking a reporter to cover pop culture - from announcing and reviewing concerts to keeping a finger on the pulse of what Central Indiana readers want to know about how the world of entertainment resonates with their lives.

IndyStar is winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, including in 2021 for national reporting. We recently received a $2 million investment from our parent company, Gannett, to turbocharge local journalism in Central Indiana. You’ll work with and learn from some of journalism’s best while living in a vibrant and diverse city in the heart of the Midwest.

The pop culture reporter will turn to analytics to hone in on the stories that matter to Hoosiers in the world of pop culture. Not only must this reporter enjoy going to concerts as part of the job, he or she should understand what bands make our readers sing. This reporter will also play a critical role in covering major tentpole events in our city, from annual events like the Indy 500 to the Taylor Swift concerts this November

Our town may be competitive, but our newsroom is collaborative. This reporter can expect to work with colleagues on a range of beats, from our arts and entertainment reporter to the business reporters. Every IndyStar reporter is expected to seek out and represent diverse racial, ethnic, and economic perspectives in their work. And most of all, the pop culture reporter should be able to write with a strong voice that exemplifies a sense of place for our readers.

Our mission is clear: IndyStar informs, empowers and inspires the people of Central Indiana with our journalism. We deliver journalism that is essential to the communities we serve with urgency. We are a people-centered newsroom that’s obsessed with thoughtful experimentation and developing our next generation of industry leaders.
