Election coverage you can plan around

Election season is hopping, and getting to all the candidate and race coverage you’re hoping to do is tough enough, and that’s just the baseline. If someone has an open-mic gaffe or becomes a national story because of a comment made at a candidate forum, that can upend anyone’s plans.

So, we’d like to help.

The news teams at the Arnolt Center at IU, Indiana Capital Chronicle, Indiana Citizen, FPI News, Mirror Indy and Statehouse File want to give you (maybe?) a little chance to breathe this election season.

We’ve put together a shared budget full of content available for your use. Currently, there are nearly 50 stories with publishing dates from now until post-election, covering everything from the Secretary of State’s race to voter guidelines to specialty pieces examining judicial seats.

New this year, we’re working with an expert from Purdue University who will explain in layman’s terms how PACs work, why mailboxes are flooded with flyers that the candidates themselves know nothing about, and why it seems the flyers and other advertisements can presumably say almost anything.

And post-election, as I mentioned last month, a team at the Arnolt Center at IU will review how much was spent on school board races, and what role, if any, those dollars played in the decisions.

All of the content can be found here.

If you have any questions about the stories planned, or are looking for something that we’ve maybe not considered, please reach out to me at lisa.renze@freepressindiana.org. We can’t promise anything, but I’d always much prefer to have a chance to talk through an idea rather than not consider something that may be a great addition to the offerings.

As always, thank you all for the work you do. It’s essential, now more than ever.
