Periodical workshop available for newspaper employees

The Bloomington Postal Customer Council will conduct a postal education workshop for mailers Aug. 9.

The event, supported by HSPA Foundation, will provide useful information on the basics of periodical mail for both experienced and new employees.

The workshop will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Indiana University Alumni Center, 1000 E. 17th St., Bloomington, Ind.

Registration costs $20 per person and is due Monday, Aug. 6, through the form available by clicking here

Some subjects that will be covered include:

• Eligibility standards, advertising percentage, non-advertising percentage, marked copy, ID statement and postage statement

• In-county, out-of-county, subscriber and non-subscriber copies

• Limited circulation; mail preparation such as sorting and bundling traying/sacking of mail; and automation versus machineable and non-machineable

• Address placement and SOC compliance rules and regulations.

Please note the workshop is designed to educate mailers about rules and regulations pertaining to periodical mail. The session will not cover delivery service, delivery standards or the closing of postal facilities.
