From the South Bend Tribune:

Q: A school board I cover approved a settlement agreement with a former administrator during a recent open meeting. The next afternoon I’m still unable to get a copy of it.

I’m getting various excuses from the administration, including “We’re working on it.” The school board president refers me to the administration. Do you have any suggestions?

A: I’d remind them that the school board members approved the settlement agreement in a public vote, indicating the information is detailed in a completed document.

It should be disclosable as a public record because a settlement is a financial obligation for the school district.

So ask what’s the hang-up in simply making a copy.
