Q&A: School district public notices

From the Hope Star-Journal:

Q: Are school corporations required to publish public notices in more than one newspaper?

A: That depends on the number of newspapers located within the school district boundaries. In Bartholomew County there are two newspapers – the Hope Star-Journals and The Republic (Columbus). A school district in Columbus must use The Republic to publish notices. It doesn’t have to use your newspaper unless Hope is in that school district. The reverse holds true for a school district that includes Hope.

If a school district has no newspaper within its boundary, then it selects a newspaper that distributes within its boundary (two if the school district crosses county lines).

The only time a school would be required to use two newspapers, other than with multi-county districts, is if more than one newspaper is located within its boundary.
