Q&A: Copyright of online content

From The Truth (Elkhart):

Q: I conducted a Google search for some eTruth content and discovered a website using virtually all of our content to establish itself as a competitor to our website. Is there anything we can do?

A: The Truth has common law copyright protection for its content, and if you have registered the newspaper with the U.S. Library of Congress you would also have federal copyright law protection, which includes provisions for damages.

I would suggest you have your lawyer contact the operators of the site and insist that they stop infringing on your copyright.

The letter alone may halt the practice. If not, then you need to have a more detailed discussion with your lawyer or one well-versed in copyright law to see what your litigation options are.
