Q&A: Commissioners at hospital board executive sessions?

From an Ohio resident:

Q: Do the voter-elected county commissioners have the right to attend hospital board executive sessions? I would assume that the answer is yes because the commissioners appoint the hospital board of trustees.

A: The answer in Indiana is no. The hospital board is a separate board, and they would control who is allowed to sit in on an executive session. Politically, the board might decide to allow it since telling the commissioners they can’t attend might lead to new appointments on the hospital board.
