Melissa Conrad was recently named the managing editor of the Greensburg Daily News.

Conrad is an experienced reporter and manager who began writing for newspapers more than 25 years ago, most recently at the Rushville Republican.

Her experience goes beyond journalism and includes leadership roles in the public and private sectors and with nonprofits in Indianapolis.

“When I first became a reporter in the ’80s, I had the privilege of learning from an inspiring group of committed and ethical journalists and editors,” Conrad says. “What pushed me to work in all three sectors of our economy was the same desire to understand and be able to intimately communicate their motivations and tell their stories,” she said.

Conrad holds the media’s role in building community in high regard as the modern-day scribe, recording history as it is lived, she said.

“Media’s fundamental charge to serve as the public’s watchdog runs side by side with our society’s need to share our stories, big and small, of our triumphs and tragedies, with one another,” she said.

Conrad lives on a Hoosier Homestead in nearby Milroy that has been in her family more than 100 years. She has 17-year-old triplets and an older son who is a U.S. Navy veteran and finishing his degree through Indiana University.
