The year was 1964.

Lyndon B. Johnson was President and the Beatles performed on The Ed Sullivan Show. The Cardinals defeated the Yankees in the World Series and Mary Poppins was in movie theaters. Martin Luther King, Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and the Civil Rights Act was signed into law.

And from the United States Supreme Court came one of the most significant First Amendment decisions of all time: New York Times v. Sullivan.
