HSPA member Tina West received a 2011 Colts Community Quarterback Award.
The program recognizes Indianapolis Colts season ticket-holders who demonstrate outstanding commitment to their community through volunteerism.
Indianapolis Colts running back Delone Carter presented the award to West, publisher of The Courier-Times (New Castle) and a member of the HSPA board of directors.
A cancer survivor, West participates in the Relay for Life in her community.
She also takes part in bowling events for Big Brothers Big Sisters, assists the local YMCA and attends events for other organizations she is involved with in a volunteer capacity.
West is the women’s ministry leader at Cadiz Christian Church.
She also serves on several boards in addition to HSPA, including the local chamber of commerce and Leadership Academy.
One of West’s greatest passions is improving literacy.
In that effort she creates and implements various programs to promote reading newspapers in the classrooms of Henry County.
“I love my community and children,” West said. “If we can each teach children to read, it will prepare them for a better life.”
