The new editor at the Courier-Times (New Castle) has ties to the area, including a 13-year stint as the owner of a local publication.
Bob Hansen has worked in journalism since 1975.
He previously worked as an editor for three and a half years at The News-Examiner (Connersville).
He also owned the Hagerstown Exponent from 1986 to 1999, when he sold the publication. It later ceased production.
Hansen was president of the HSPA board of directors from 1995-1996.
He served on the Hagerstown Town Council and in various capacities with the Economic Development Corp. of Wayne County in Richmond.
Hansen said the press should hold public officials accountable and inform the public.
“The press helps explains why things are done a certain way,” he said. “However, the press should also help people become more involved in their government.”
