Recently retired HSPA Executive Director David Stamps has been named a Sagamore of the Wabash.

Stamps received the award from Gov. Mitch Daniels during a Jan. 24 ceremony with his wife, Sandy, in attendance.

Stamps retired in October after 14 years as HSPA’s executive director.

Prior to coming to HSPA, Stamps had a 27-year career in newspapers in a number of roles in editorial, advertising and publishing.

The Sagamore of the Wabash award was created during the term of Gov. Ralph Gates, who served from 1945 to 1949.

Each governor since Gates has presented Sagamore awards.
