The Herald-Times (Bloomington) circulation department recently received first place for the Best Small Newspaper Promotion by the Newspaper Association of America.

The paper won the award for its single-copy collaboration with the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department during the American Softball Association girls’ 12 and under fast pitch national championship tournament last summer.

The paper’s circulation department, headed by circulation manager Tim Smith and promotion/single-copy manager Pat Ellis, marketed special editions of the newspaper – with an information-filled “wrap” prepared by the H-T sports department – to the 100 teams and their families who were in Bloomington for the tournament in July.

The Newspaper Association of America is a nonprofit organization representing nearly 2,000 daily and nondaily newspapers, print publications and online products.
