Times are tough for newspapers as well as newspaper employees.

In an effort to help managers fill positions and industry professionals find jobs, Hoosier State Press Association has added a free classifieds feature on its content-sharing site, InfoNet, at www.hspainfo.net.

Employment help

A free classifieds section of HSPA’s content-sharing site, www.hspainfo.net, is designed to help papers find employees and newspaper professionals find jobs.

Managers can post help-wanted listings, and journalists, ad reps and others can search for job openings, said Steve Key, HSPA executive director and general counsel.

“Given the recent layoffs at two of our state’s largest papers, The Indianapolis Star and the Evansville Courier & Press, and the imminent closing of a Paxton Media Group printing facility in Shelbyville, this feature could not come at a better time,” Key said

The InfoNet job listings can help newspapers and those seeking to work at papers in several ways:

• Editors and other managers can post help-wanted listings that job-seekers can search.

• Journalists and others in the newspaper industry can post resume information about themselves for editors to browse.

• Job-seekers can sign up to receive an email when a job matching their criteria is posted.

There is sure to be an increase in newspaper professionals looking for jobs right now, said Tim Timmons, publisher of The Paper of Montgomery County (Crawfordsville) and The Times (Noblesville) and president of the HSPA board of directors.

“At a time when jobs in our industry are at a premium, it’s great that our state press association can help facilitate putting potential employees together with potential employers,” Timmons said.

Though InfoNet is primarily a free content-sharing service that papers use to supplement their local and state coverage, HSPA added the classifieds page to better serve its members, Key said.

“We hope the feature can help our publishers, editors and other managers find the best-qualified employees to improve their operations,” he said.

To use the classifieds feature, visit www.hspainfo.net, click on “Employment” in the top menu bar and select the appropriate links to submit an ad or resume information or to receive an email when a listing of interest is posted.

As always, publishers and managers can list job openings in The Indiana Publisher and at hspa2.aimmediallcindiana.com by emailing the information to Milissa Tuley at mtuley@hspa.com.
