The Hoosier State Press Association Board of Directors voted unanimously Friday to partner with GistCloud LLC to significantly upgrade the association’s press release service.

HSPA will be the 19th state press association to team up with GistCloud, based in California.

The service, soon to be available at Indiana.gistcloud.com, will benefit the association and entities wanting to distribute their message.

The partnership also will enable member newspapers to receive information in a variety of mediums and display the information on multiple content platforms.

Brian Cafferty, chief executive officer of GistCloud, describes his company’s product as an “intermedia press release.” Releases can be sent via email, text message, images, audio, video, and social media.

The service increases a company’s visibility to the public and makes journalists’ jobs of processing news simpler.

HSPA’s press release offerings via GistCloud should be up and running within weeks.

In addition, the service will be another tool to assist newspapers through HSPA’s advertising arm, Midwest Advertising Placements.

“The service can be coupled with display advertising to give companies greater reach in the community,” said Steve Key, executive director and general counsel for HSPA. “It’s another reason for PR firms, advertising agencies and direct clients to use newspapers to deliver a message.”

When Indiana.gistcloud.com is launched, HSPA-member newspapers and other media outlets will receive press releases as brief emails with a headline, capsule description and link to a full version of the release.

Newspaper editors have no obligation to use press releases from Indiana.gistcloud.com and should evaluate the offerings’ news value as they would any other submission.
